Here at SGT Automobiles were are delighted to offer this superb 1988 Austin Mini Designer Mary Quant for sale.

 

Throughout its run British Leyland created a catalogue of limited edition Mini’s, many of which paying homage to the London borough’s the car would frequent in the 60s. Locations such as Chelsea, Park Lane and Piccadilly. The Designer edition was a celebration of another great British design icon from the 1960s, fashion designer Mary Quant.

 

Released in 1988, only 2000 Mini Designers were produced, 1000 in white and 1000 in black, less than 100 of all made are believed to be left on the road today. The signature look of the Designer consisted of an interior that was quintessential Mary Quant, Black and White striped fabric upholstery, a bespoke sports Steering Wheel containing Quants iconic Daisy motif centre badge, a unique Mary Quant Bonnet badge, ‘Designer’ coachlines and lettering and finished with Nimbus Grey trim all around.

 

This car is as good an example of a limited edition Mini, let alone a Designer, as you are likely to find. A low mileage example having covered just 43,000 miles, the car was in the ownership of the same lady for much of its life between 1989 and 2023. The car has subsequently had 3 further owners including a Mini collector.

 

The bodywork and paint are in a stunning condition, with no sign of rust or deterioration. All of the Nimbus Grey trim pieces are present and correct in fully original condition, something that is extremely rare to find on one of these increasingly rare Mini variants. It cannot be understated how impressive this car presents and could be immediately used for shows or the centre piece of a collection.

 

The interior is reflective of how loved this car has been over its lifetime. The Quant seats are in immaculate condition as are the carpets, interior trim and Steering Wheel. Mechanically, the car starts every time and runs smoothly, with the engine bay smartly presented, including factory fitted original splash guard and Bonnet Lining.

 

The car is complete with its factory fitted spare wheel and jack. The history file includes all of its original paperwork along with a fully stamped service book and bills detailing how meticulously the car has been. The car also comes with a plethora of period advertising material outlining the car.

 

This is an extremely impressive example of an increasingly rare version of the most iconic cars ever made. A unique opportunity to own as good a Mini Designer as you are likely to find.
